MyClass.net seeks to build an online Community for teachers, students and parents by offering customizable class web sites. Each MyClass.net class site is its own Community with class-specific information and resources. Each MyClass.net Select service class site can be accessed only by registered members of the class using a confidential and unique user name and password. To offer this service, we require that all teacher, student, and parent members provide personal information during member registration. The MyClass.net Public Page service does not require student and parent registration, so in this case registration information is only required of the teacher. It is important to us to ensure that all of your information is private. The following statement explains our privacy policies.

To protect the privacy of children, this option is not available to student members under the age of 13. If the member is under the age of 13, we will not release any personally identifiable information, even if the child indicates on his or her registration that he or she would like to receive such information.

  3. MyClass.net members can make changes in their member profile, and modify personal info provided during registration, at any time. This allows members to opt-out of receiving information from third parties.

  5. MyClass.net has taken several steps to ensure that member data is secure. The MyClass.net service is provided from secure servers and the MyClass.net databases are organized in such a way to prevent the theft or corruption of information. What information do we compile and use?

Personal information is collected at the time of member registration. Such personally identifiable information will be used only for the purposes stated at the time of collection, and within this Privacy Statement. If such an option is taken, we will not share such information with outside parties; however, we do reserve the right to release that information concerning a member when the member partakes in an illegal activity, or for a member who we believe is in violation of our content guidelines, even without a subpoena, warrant, or other court order. MyClass.net hopes that all third parties involved adhere to our policies regarding the privacy of our members; however, MyClass.net does not assume any responsibility for any actions of third parties.

If the member is under the age of 13, we will not release any personally identifiable information, even if the child indicates on his or her registration that he or she would like to receive such information. We use the aggregate data we collect to perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our members, to measure overall patron demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the MyClass.net domain and to analyze how and where to use our resources. We use the aggregate data to present a demographic profile of our membership to potential sponsors. We also use the aggregate data collected to inform our sponsors as to the demographics of the members who have seen and "clicked" on their advertisement.

How do we internally use member information?

We use the aggregate data we collect to perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our members, to measure overall patron demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the MyClass.net domain and to analyze how and where to use our resources. We use the aggregate data to present a demographic profile of our membership to potential sponsors. We also use the aggregate data collected to inform our sponsors as to the demographics of the members who have seen and "clicked" on their advertisement. No personally identifiable information will be disclosed to these advertisers as part of this process; only information in an aggregate form. Without the data collected, we would not know what the most popular regions of MyClass.net are, we would not be able to provide an effective forum for our sponsors to advertise in, nor would we be able to measure which promotions work.

Do we disseminate the member information we collect?

During the registration process for MyClass, members are presented with the choice of whether or not to receive promotional information from MyClass.net or our sponsors. For those who elect to receive promotional materials from MyClass.net or third parties, and who indicate that they do in their profile, we do release personally identifiable information. Information released includes: name, address, e-mail address, interests, and the broader personal information (e.g., date of birth, level of education, household income, purchasing behavior) supplied in the MyClass.net registration.

If the member is under the age of 13, we will not release any personally identifiable information, even if the child indicates on his or her registration that he or she would like to receive such information. Information collected in the MyClass.net student registration is limited and different than the info collected in teacher and parent registration (see above, 2. What information do we collect and use?). Students, regardless of age, are not asked to provide certain personal information (telephone, home address, household income, purchasing behavior).

MyClass.net limits the sending of e-mail solicitations to members who have requested this type of information/communication. Such solicitations are limited in that they, among other things, must clearly indicate who the originator of the e-mail is, and provide the member with a method of opting out from receiving future communications.

If you are receiving e-mail from a third party who states that it is specifically associated with MyClass.net, yet you indicated on your registration or profile editor that you did not want to receive promotional material from MyClass.net or its sponsors, please first attempt to follow the third party's removal procedures. Then verify that your MyClass.net member profile is correct. If it is incorrect or does indeed indicate that you chose to not receive the e-mail, please contact us at: support(at)myclass.net, and we will promptly investigate why this error occurred.

MyClass.net does not sell or lease personally identifiable information regarding MyClass.net members who elect in their registration form not to receive promotional materials from third parties.

MyClass.net encourages all third parties involved to adhere to our policies regarding the privacy of our members, but MyClass.net does not assume any responsibility for any actions of third parties.

If, at any time, you decide that you would like to discontinue receiving promotional information from MyClass.net or its sponsors, please edit your personal profile to indicate your new choice.

We respond to subpoenas, warrants, or other court orders regarding information that is contained within our access logs concerning any member or visitor. We also reserve the right to release that information concerning a member who we believe is in violation of our content guidelines, even without a subpoena, warrant, or other court order. We cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who use our servers for illegal activities. We also reserve the right to report any illegal activity to law enforcement for prosecution.

Do we allow an opt-out from the collection of data on an individual?

During the registration process for MyClass.net membership, we ask if that individual would like to receive the MyClass.net e-mail newsletters and other official e-mail from MyClass, and promotional material from our sponsors.

If at any time a member would like to receive or defer these mailings, he or she should edit their member profile to indicate his or her new preference.

What is our policy on removing information about a person?

All personal information of our members is retained until the member terminates his or her MyClass.net account, or the account remains inactive for an indeterminate amount of time. A member may modify their information at any time by using the member profile editor.

When a member leaves MyClass, through his or her own volition or after being removed for a violation of our content guidelines, all personal information is removed from our active database. There will, however, be residual information which will remain within the MyClass.net database and records. The residual information will not be used for commercial purposes; however, from time to time, we may contact non-active members.

What information do we collect from children? How do we try to ensure the privacy of our student members?

MyClass.net believes that it is particularly important to protect the privacy of children online (Note: MyClass.net currently defines children as minors under the age of 13 years old). We encourage children prior to and during the registration process to include their parents in the registration process, and for the parents to read our Privacy Statement. We also highly encourage parents to register themselves in their child's MyClass.net class site, so that they can play an active role in their child's education. Parent members have full access to their child's class site, special parent discussion groups, and direct communications with the child's teacher.

Each MyClass.net member class site can be accessed only by registered members of the class (teacher, students, and parents) using a confidential and unique user name and password. MyClass.net discussion boards can be accessed only be registered MyClass.net members.

All information collected from children is used only for purposes of statistical analysis, editorial participation, feedback, and those purposes described in the registration process. No information obtained from children will be passed on to a third party, regardless of whether he or she chooses for MyClass.net to disseminate his or her personal information for promotional opportunities. This includes information obtained during the registration process for membership or enrollment for special contests/promotional opportunities on our site.

The following information is collected during MyClass.net student registration (* denotes optional): first name, last name, school name, teacher name, e-mail address, interests, gender*, date of birth*, location of Internet access*.

How else can I protect my privacy in MyClass.net and on the Internet?

To prevent access to your MyClass.net account by anyone who should not have access, never give your password out to anyone. If someone claims to represent MyClass.net in an e-mail or on a discussion board and asks for your MyClass.net password, do not honor the request. We never ask for passwords, except on our site in the places you need to access our system --- member login, new member registration, and member profile editor.

Know the risks. When you communicate with others online, you should be aware that, when disclosing personal information such as one's actual name, e-mail address, etc., on a webpage, in a newsgroup, chat room or discussion group, that information may be collected and used by others to send that person unsolicited e-mail from other parties, outside MyClass.

Educate yourself. Search the Web for as much information as you can about how to protect your privacy. Look for a privacy statement in the sites you visit.

If you feel that MyClass.net has violated this Privacy Statement in any way, please contact us at: info(at)myclass.net, so that we may address this issue.
